Community Building

The history of West Elmwood Housing Development Corporation is as rich and diverse as the people who live in this small knit community in the West End. Surrounded by beauty and endless potential this community has grown and developed due to the hard work of the residents who through combined efforts formed what is now known as West Elmwood Housing Development Corporation in the 1970’s.

Through continuous grassroots community building and implementation of programming that enhances the economic development of our community, the residents have played an active role in defining the needs of our youth, our residents and our community.

Resident Engagement

Residents
have taken an active role in combating crime, recycling and assessing issues that affect our community. The resident engagement committee which meets monthly consists of a diverse group of residents who are all committed to making a difference in the community.

Youth Development

With a large growing population of youth in the community, West Elmwood Housing Development Corporation has developed innovative activities and programming to engage, educate and even entertain our youth. This summer through the Summer Sweeps programs youth participated in Mural Painting, Photography Classes, Video Production, and Financial Literacy Classes.

This year we added a new program, Fulfill the Dream, as a vehicle of learning. The Fulfill the Dream program is a student-centered curriculum which focuses on engaging the youth through the music genre of hip hop.

Also see our September event - Rebuild Bucklin Park.
